Turnbull Cutting Horses is owned and operated by Bruce Turnbull and his wife, Cassie. Their training facility is currently located in Perrin, TX. Bruce grew up in Colorado riding horses and working on a cattle ranch. He's been involved in the cutting industry since 2012, starting out showing in the youth and the $2,000 Limited Rider. In 2020 he began showing horses he trained himself in the Non Pro Aged Event classes. Some of his biggest accomplishments inside of the show pen include several circuit awards, qualifying for multiple Aged Event finals, Intermediate Non Pro Futurity Reserve Champion, and Limited Non Pro Futurity Champion.
Turnbull Cutting Horses is dedicated to developing confident, honest, and competitive cutting horses through a foundation-first training program. Our approach emphasizes correct colt starting, softness, and mental soundness, ensuring each horse understands its job and is prepared to progress naturally in the cutting pen. We believe a horse that is started right stays willing, consistent, and reliable under pressure.
Training at Turnbull Cutting Horses focuses on building balance, body control, and responsiveness before advancing to cattle work. Horses are introduced to the cow in a way that encourages natural cow sense, confidence, and correct movement-never rushed or overwhelmed. By allowing each horse to develop at its own pace, we create cutting horses that stay broke, read cattle honestly, and maintain composure in high pressure situations.
Our program prioritizes clear communication, consistency, and horsemanship that puts the horse first. The result is a cutting horse with a strong mental and physical foundation, prepared for long term success-whether in the show pen, at the futurity level, or as a dependable ranch and competition partner.

Lessons & Training
RIDING LESSONS
Basic horsemanship riding lessons are available for riders of all levels, using your own horse or one of our reliable lesson horses. Lessons focus on balance, correct position, clear communication, and building confidence in the saddle. Emphasis is placed on developing a solid foundation that supports safe, effective riding and a better partnership between horse and rider.
CUTTING LESSONS
Cutting lessons are offered for riders of all experience levels, using your own horse or one of our well-trained lesson horses. Lessons focus on proper position, timing, and understanding cattle, while helping riders develop confidence and feel in the cutting pen. Whether you're new to cutting or looking to refine your skills, each lesson is tailored to support steady progress and a solid foundation.
COLT STARTING
Bruce loves starting the colts and helping them to reach their full potential. Colt starting is the foundation of every horse's entire career. The way a colt is introduced to the bridle, saddle, and rider directly impacts how confidently and willingly they will handle pressure, learn their job, and stay mentally honest when it matters most. In cutting, where focus, cow sense, and responsiveness are critical, a solid start makes all the difference.
CUTTING HORSE TRAINING
Training and showing cutting horses in our program focuses on developing confident, responsive horses prepared to compete successfully in the cutting pen. Training emphasizes correct movement, cow sense, softness, and mental composure, while carefully preparing horses for the demands of competition. Each horse is developed with long term soundness and consistency in mind, whether progressing toward the show pen or refining their performance career.
HORSE TUNE-UPS
Tune-up training is designed to refresh and fine-tune a horse's foundation, responsiveness, and confidence. Whether a horse has time off, needs consistency, or requires polishing before returning to work or competition, tune-ups focus on softness, correctness, and getting the horse mentally and physically back on track.
